Company directors – new ASIC identification requirements

ASIC have introduced a new director identification number requirement for all company directors.  The government hope that introducing a director ID will help prevent instances of fraud.

All company directors need to apply for a director ID. Once you receive your director ID, you will have that particular number forever. Much like a Tax File Number, make sure you safeguard the director ID number for privacy purposes.

It’s free to submit the application. In fact, it could become expensive if you fail to apply on time, as it’s a criminal offence.

Existing company directors had until 30 November 2022 to apply. If you haven't applied yet, you should do so immediately.

If you’re about to become a director of a company for the first time, you need to apply before being appointed as a director.

Directors are required to apply for their own ID number, but if you need assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Debts owing to the Tax Office

If you are experiencing financial difficulties, you may wish to make a debt repayment plan with the Tax Office.

Repayment terms can be quite generous, in some cases allowing up to two years to pay the balance of outstanding amounts. We can make arrangements for Income Tax accounts and also Integrated Client accounts to cover GST, PAYG instalments and PAYG Withholding from staff wages.

It’s important to stay on top of your lodgement obligations to avoid late lodgement penalties. Don’t delay lodging forms because you anticipate having problems paying the ATO.

We can negotiate monthly, fortnightly or weekly repayment amounts that you can pay via Bpay or automatic bank transfer. Sometimes the Tax Office will even remit interest charges. The most important thing is to communicate with us so we can approach the Tax Office and make a suitable arrangement in a timely manner.
