Company directors – new ASIC identification requirements

Published 18 Jan

ASIC have introduced a new director identification number requirement for all company directors.  The government hope that introducing a director ID will help prevent instances of fraud.

All company directors need to apply for a director ID. Once you receive your director ID, you will have that particular number forever. Much like a Tax File Number, make sure you safeguard the director ID number for privacy purposes.

It’s free to submit the application. In fact, it could become expensive if you fail to apply, as it’s a criminal offence.

Existing company directors had until 30 November 2022 to apply. If you haven't apply yet though, you should do it immediately.

If you’re about to become a director of a company for the first time, you need to apply before being appointed as a director.

To apply for a director ID, go to https://www.abrs.gov.au/director-identification-number

Directors are required to apply for their own ID number, but if you need assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
